Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs in Osun State, Chief Mrs. Ayo Awolowo has identified women’s empowerment as key and essential, not only to her family but also to the communities and the countries at large.
The Commissioner made this assertion during the distribution of equipment such as Chest freezers, Grinding Machines and Power-generating sets to indigent women in Oke-Ila, Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State.
Chief (Mrs.) Awolowo while commending the Federal, State and World Bank for the initiative aimed at liberating indigent women from poverty said that the good gesture will go a long way in enabling the beneficiaries, especially the widows put food on their tables and contribute meaningfully to society’s development.
She therefore advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the equipment to justify the intention of the organisers.
Speaking, the Focal Officer of the Programme, tagged “Nigeria For Women Project”, Mr. Folorunso Tomori contended that, it is when the women are empowered, fulfilled and productive that they can raise happier and healthier children in the society.
According to him, empowering women will relieve husbands of their responsibilities at home and foster unity in the family.
Responding separately, two of the visibly elated beneficiaries, Mrs. Bukola Fakayode and Mrs.Oladosu Esther, showered encomiums on the organisers and prayed for divine relief for their pains.
The empowerment programme was graced by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women, Children and Social Affairs, Hon.Sekinat Olokungboye; Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Hon Soji Fagboun and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Modupe Irelewuyi, among others.
