For Osun State to rise to the pinnacle of Development and be reckon with other developed States in Nigeria, it is necessary for it to recognize key indices that will aid this gesture.
This was revealed by Professor Siyan Oyeweso, a Guest speaker and renowned history Guru at the 2nd Edition of the Guest Platform of the Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ) Osun Council in Osogbo on Friday.
The theme of this Edition was: OSUN At 30: The journey so far, The Prospects, and Projection.
Professor Oyeweso highlighted the indices that are relevant to attaining this development. According to the University Don of History,’’ there is need for the higher institution of learning to key in into the development agenda of the State’’.
Pro. Oyeweso posits that in spite of the fact that Osun opted for Mining as a means of diversifying the State’s economy, there is no institution in the State that offers courses in Mining. He, therefore, called on the local government and universities in the State to key in into the agricultural policy of the government, adding that agricultural scholars must be known by the size of their farms and not by the volume of the books they authored.
Food security, according to the Don, is sine-qua-non to the development of the State he said. The Osun government must prioritize the establishment of a Heritage Museum and Archive, adding that the State should also come up with research and Archive Bureau.
Prof. Oyefeso added that since States like Lagos and Edo had taken the lead and are successful, Osun should also join the suit.
