ACF protests alleged illegal sealing of headquarters by police in Kaduna

The headquarters of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has been sealed by personnel of the Nigeria Police for no apparent reason, ahead of its planned meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) scheduled for Wednesday, April 6, 2026.

The ACF National Publicity Secretary, Prof Muhammad-Baba, in a statement made available to DAILY POST, said: “The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) wishes to report that its Kaduna Headquarters office has been sealed off by personnel of the Nigeria Police for no apparent reason, ahead of the planned meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) slated for Wednesday, 6 April 2026.

“The only hint about the illegal action is a short unsigned circular but attributed to Bashir Dalhatu, Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees (BOT), ostensibly that the said meeting has been cancelled because it was called by the forum’s Secretary General.”

The statement explained that the ACF is unaware of any court order against it or any restriction on its functions.

Secondly, it added: “It needs to be reiterated that the Chairman of the BOT has, unequivocally, no authority whatsoever over any function outside Section 8 of the ACF Constitution.”

It stated that the said meeting, as well as that of the National Working Committee (NWC), which held earlier today, was called by the Chairman of the ACF, Mamman Osuman, vide Section 20, subsection 3, as well as Section 13, subsection 3(c), which states that meetings are called at the instance of the Chairman and not the Secretary General, irrespective of current arguments about the latter’s tenure.

According to the statement: “This is therefore to urgently request the Inspector General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu, to call the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police to unseal the ACF Headquarters. today’s meeting held without incident. As well, relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, were duly intimated about the meetings.

“There is, therefore, absolutely no basis for sealing the office unless, of course, there are some unstated motives. Already, delegates are in Kaduna ahead of the NEC meeting. ACF hopes that rationality and good judgement will prevail over its affairs.”
