Honourable Taiwo Oluga, the Parliamentarian representing Ayedaade, Isokan, and Irewole Federal Constituency was the Guest at the Monthly Media Parley of the Online Media Practitioners Association(OOMPA) on Monday in Osogbo, Osun State at Ben Ber Event Hall, Ring Road. The theme of the Media Parley –DIGGING into POLITICS, GOVERNANCE, and DIVIDENDS.
While responding to a question from the Publisher of The Interviews Nigeria as to why women are yet to be found on the Presidential or governorship seat in Nigeria when Nigeria shall in a few days’ time celebrate61 years of her independence? The lawmaker did not mince words to say ‘the population of women in politics and governance is improving and will improve more.’’
‘’Even in the US which has been operating Democracy for over 200 years, only just of recent had a female vice-President’’. ‘’But, I can tell you that in Nigeria at present, we have more than ten(10) women who can contest for the positions, but just accommodate us, women’’. Even one of our women in Taraba State(Mama Taraba of blessed memory) was almost there in the governorship race in her State in the previous elections.”
‘’Our women are capable and we have what it takes to take the mantle of leadership in the polity’’.’’ I say to our men, please accommodate us’’. ‘’We want to assist you, we want to do what you are doing’’.
According to Honourable Oluga,’’ the first Index case of COVID-19 test was discovered by a female in Ogun State.’’.
‘’We want to complement what men are doing. Now, we have proposed in the house that additional seats be provided for women in the green Chamber (House of Rep)’’ ‘’Rome was not built in a day’’. I give kudos to those we have in the’ House’ at present’’, she added.
Highlighting her activities in bringing dividend of democracy to her good people in her constituency, she said,’’ I have proposed more than twenty bills in the House of Representatives for both my people and the youths in Nigeria in less than 24 months in office’’
‘’For instance, the provision of 132/133KVA Electricity Sub-station for Ayedaade, Isokan and Irewole Federal Constituency’’. This was to improve the economic activities and security in the areas.
‘’I have also executed many feasible projects such as the construction of a block of classrooms for schools, laptops and science equipment and other educational materials for primary schools in my constituency’’, she said.
According to Hon. Taiwo, to alleviate poverty and youths unemployment in my constituency, I have organized sporting activities in order to bring out the best talents among the youths and also the Essay Competition for Students in higher institutions (during Covid-19) where the best 3 students were rewarded accordingly.’’ This programme (Essay Competition) was coordinated by professionals and not politicians’’.
I have also assisted the market women with soft loans of at least N500, 000 at each local government. The pepper sellers, orange sellers, and many more benefited from this. We also trained these rural women in the area of fish breeding, snail, and rabbit rearing. ‘’ I picked them randomly so that the impact will be felt collectively’’.
