The suspended Chairman of the EFCC Ibrahim Magu has reacted through his lawyer to the appointment of Abdulrasheed Bawa as the new Chairman of the dreaded Commission.
The lawyer, Tosin Ajaomo said that the appointment made by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday 16th February came as a bolt from the blue.
It will be recalled that Magu was dropped by President Buhari and placed on suspension on alleged corruption and now requested the Senate to confirm Bawa as the substantive Chairman of the commission.
In a letter to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, the President of the senate said he was acting in accordance with paragraph 2(3) of Part 1 CAP E1 of EFCC Act 2004.
Ajaomo, on the Channels Television programme, is of the view that justice has not been served on the allegations of corruption leveled against his client, Magu.
‘’ Sincerely, I need to tell you that this appointment came to me as a shock. There is still an unfinished assignment that was pending ‘’ he said. ‘’ I was expecting that the issue of Magu would have been sorted out before moving to another stage.’’. Unfortunately, we just got this news today that a new Chairman of the EFCC has been nominated by the President and his name forwarded to the Senate.
Recall that the albatross allegations of corruption have been hanging on the neck of Magu, the former EFCC boss who was unceremoniously booted out of the office on 10 July 2020 by the President while Muhammed Umar replaced Magu as the Director of Operations in charge of the agency affairs.
