The Cable reports on  Tuesday, 28 October, 2025,  that the Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled the Excellence in Tax Reform Reporting Award, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at recognizing and rewarding journalists, media houses, and digital influencers who demonstrate exceptional commitment to balanced, factual, and insightful coverage of the nation’s ongoing tax reform agenda.

With a top prize of N10 million, the award seeks to foster public understanding and constructive discourse around one of the most critical economic reforms in recent Nigerian history.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

In a series of posts, Oyedele emphasized the pivotal role of the media in shaping public perception and ensuring transparency in the implementation of the Nigeria Tax Reform Bills currently before the National Assembly.

“This is not just about rewarding excellence; it’s about building a partnership with the Fourth Estate to drive national development through informed citizenship,” Oyedele stated.

“Misinformation has been a major barrier to tax compliance and reform acceptance. We want to celebrate those who get it right with depth, context, and integrity.”

  1. The award, structured in multiple categories, include:

Best Investigative Report on Tax Reforms – N10 million

Best Feature Story (Print/Broadcast) – N7 million

Best Digital Content Creator/Influencer – N5 million

Best Editorial/Opinion Piece – N3 million

People’s Choice Award (Public Vote) – N2 million

Additional recognition will be given to regional reporters and student journalists, with consolation prizes and professional development opportunities, including fully funded training at leading international media institutions.

Submissions will be judged by a panel of distinguished professionals, including veteran journalists, tax experts, academic scholars, and representatives from the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).

Entries must be published or broadcast between January 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, with a submission deadline of April 15, 2026.
