Osun Government, under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke, has again pledged to intensify its efforts in promoting and developing culture and tourism in order to increase the Internally Generated Revenue of the State.
This was reiterated by the Chairman of the Committee on Internally Generated Revenue, Prince Sola Adewumi at a meeting held with the management of the Osun Council for Arts and Culture held at the State Secretariat Complex, Osogbo, the State Capital.
The Chairman explained that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is very much interested in making culture and tourist centres sources of income for the Government.
Prince Adewumi stressed further that culture is one of the major sectors that the government would exploit for improved IGR. He, therefore, encouraged the management of the Agency to submit the list of their needs to the appropriate quarters, as soon as possible, so that they can be adequately equipped for quality delivery.
While speaking, the Director, of the Visual Art Department of the Agency, Mr Kelvin Nordiana said, Culture drives Tourism, clarifying that they are two coins of different sides.
He also explained that one of the Vital Departments in the Agency, the Field of Research and Documentation needs the quick intervention of the government, alerting that the Department is almost dead.
He added that there are various units in the Agency which include: Graphics Art, Printers, Crafts, and Tailoring Unit, noting that the staff are in high spirits with a renewed sense of commitment to work hard and generate more revenue into the coffers of government. He, therefore, appealed to the government to assist in terms of funding for the smooth running of the Agency.
