*Troubles with good eyesight and vision have been a major problem for us these days.*
We are ignorant about some habits and behaviours that’s been *destroying our eyes and vision.*
Find below some of the causes and remedies as prescribed by our In-house Doctor:
Not eating healthy diets:*

If you aren’t incorporating enough fruits and vegetables into your daily diet then you’re probably not getting the necessary vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids necessary for optimum eye health.
A diet rich in fruit, leafy greens, and fish is essential to keeping your vision healthy.
Eating properly balanced foods for eye health can help prevent or manage many age-related eye diseases.
Not getting enough sleep:*
Not getting enough rest can cause red, bloodshot eyes as well as dark circles, eye spasms, dry eyes and blurry vision.
Not getting enough rest not only affects your vision, but it can affect your overall health as well.
Not drinking water regularly:*

Not drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water per day and eating a high-sodium diet can cause your body to become dehydrated.
This can cause your eyes to not produce enough tears to keep them moisturized and properly nourished.
*Dry eyes, red eyes and puffy eyelids can all be a result of dehydration.*
Smoking:*

*Smoking harms almost every part of your body including your eyes.*
Research has linked smoking to eye diseases such as macular degeneration, dry eyes, cataracts, uveitis, and diabetic retinopathy.
Smokers are four times more likely to lose their vision compared to people who do not smoke.
*The good news is that quitting, no matter your age can help reduce your risk of developing a serious eye condition.*
Too much screen time:*

Working for long hours on the computer or reading on your smartphone can lead to dry eye, blurry vision, and other health concerns associated with the eye.
Computer or phone eye strain can be combated with digital screen protection glasses *but you should be monitoring your hours of screen time.*
Take regular breaks every twenty minutes to look away from the screen, observe an object in the distance, and give your eyes a break.
*You should also blink slowly about ten times to help lubricate your eyes.*
Rubbing your eyes too often:*

Rubbing your eyes may seem like a harmless habit but it can actually lead to new or worsening eye problems.
If you rub your eyes too often you can cause *myopia and glaucoma* to worsen, both directly affecting your eyesight.
*Keratoconus* can actually be started due to excessive eye rubbing.
This is when the cornea reshapes and thins into a cone shape when it should be round.
Sleeping with contact lenses:*

The safety profile of contact lenses depends on how they are worn.
They are not designed to be slept with and when this happens, *bacteria can get trapped between the lens and the cornea.*
When continuously used incorrectly, *serious eye infection, resulting in permanent ocular damage can develop.*
This increases their risk of getting a contact lens-related infection.
Overusing eye drops:*

While eye drops temporarily alleviate dry eyes, using them too often could actually irritate your eyes over time.
It is recommended to use eyedrops for only a short period of time.
*If you’re using prescription eyedrops, be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions, and stop using them immediately if they cause irritation or any other negative side effect.*
Overusing eye makeup:*

*Anything you put near your eye is a potential risk.*
And yes, this includes your *mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, and eye creams.*
So make sure to apply *makeup far away from your lash line* so you don’t block the oil glands of your lids.
A buildup there can cause infections.
Also, change your eye makeup after three months.
*Bacteria loves to grow in dark, damp places,* so your mascara could be a breeding ground for some nasty infections.
Not visiting an optometrist for a long time:*

Not only can your doctor detect serious eye issues like glaucoma that don’t have symptoms, but they can also see signs of other illnesses *(such as diabetes and high blood pressure)* just by peaking into your eye.
*Life can’t be better without good eyesight, protect them.* Stay safe
