In the process of opening local governments accounts for the 30 Councils of Osun State, the elected People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen have called on President Bola Tinubu and Central Bank Governor (CBN) of Nigeria,Olayemi Cardoso,to intervene into the alleged professional misconduct of the Controller of the State CBN branch.
The chairman,under the aegis of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria(ALGON),Osun State Chapter,on Tuesday alleged that the CBN branch controller gave forms for the opening 9f LG accounts to impostors on Monday, despite the latest Court of Appeal judgement.
While addressing journalists at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abere, the Chairman of the Osun ALGON,Hon. Sarafadeen Awotunde,accused the Osogbo CBN branch Controller of ignoring with unethical conduct when they approached the bank on Tuesday.
Awotunde expressed shock over the conduct of the Osun CBN branch Controller, saying he and five others approached the bank on Tuesday morning to open LG accounts but we’re stranded at the gate as the Osun CBN Controller refused to let them enter the CBN premises despite attempts to do so on Monday.
To this effect,the ALƓON chairman urged the State CBN Branch Controller to request a transfer out of Osun State,”if she is not up to date or does not want to respect the rule of law;she should just ask for a transfer and return to the headquarters and allow the person who will respect the rule of law and do the job diligently to come”.
According to him,”Giving anybody any advantage at the back of the door is a breach and a criminal offence because CBN is not Awotunde’s group of Companies; CBN is owned by the government and Nigerians,” he said.
While speaking on the recent victory accorded them at the Akure Court of Appeal judgement that validated the February 22 election,that brought them into office as the duly elected Chairmen, Awotunde said,” I want to appreciate our dear President who is acting according to the rule of law,who is among those who spearheaded and fought for the existence of democracy in Nigeria”.
“We want to appreciate him for not having an interference in the judiciary.” He, however, called on the Osun All Progressive Congress and the Yes/No Chairmen to accept defeat”. He said, “if you rejoice when you win,then try to have the spirit to concede defeat””.
Awotunde however,warned that they would no longer tolerate the opposition party over the LG imbroglio.
“We are being very lenient ,we don’t make trouble. We appreciate the newly elected chairmen, we appreciate NULGE and all civil servants,and all directors.
” We manifested to the world that we are peace-loving,that we don’t want chaos and anarchy in Osun State,but enough is enough,” he concluded.
