Friday, 29th January marks the beginning of the fulfillment of the Oyetola Administration’s promise to erect Flyover at Olaiya junction and the reconstruction of Okefia Roundabout in Osogbo, State of Osun.
Major junctions at Lameco/Okefia, Okefia/Alekuwodo, Akindeko/Olaiya,/Olaiya/Odiolowo junctions were temporarily barricaded for 3hours between 2 pm-5 pm as earlier announced by the governor and jingles on radio and television stations in the state making it impossible for motorists, ‘’Okada’’ riders to ply those closed roads.
Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Traffic Wardens, Civil Defense Corps, Police, and Soldiers were on standby directing vehicular movements and pedestrians to already mapped out alternative routes.
‘The Interviews Nigeria’ went around the city especially the affected major junctions to seek panoramic views of passersby, commercial drivers, traders. The majority of the people interviewed were of the opinion that erecting the flyover and reconstructing the Okefia Roundabout was timely and necessary not only to beautify the city but to prevent accidents and ease traffic congestions in the city.
At Olaiya junction, one Mr. Akeem Jagun, who spoke on behalf of his team,(governor’s admirers) was of the mind that ‘’ our people locally and overseas will be very proud of the state of Osun and the construction of the flyover. They will be happy to point out to their friends and acquaintances of good developments in their state’’. With this latest development, Osun state is progressing rapidly and hoping for more developments in the state. All we are wishing Governor Oyetola is to continue his good works and praying for him to continue his governance after his first term in office for a second term in government’’, he concluded.
In a question put to a Chieftain of APC at Akindeko Olaiya junction, Omooba Muyideen Adelana, on how he feels about the event and project, his response was ‘’ we thank God for the Governor, his cabinet and the people of Osun State. Constructing the flyover will prevent ‘’Okada’’ / vehicles clash, it will reduce accidents, ease hold-ups and beautify the city’’. This is a welcome development and we are praying to God to continue to strengthen the governor and his team’’.
Mr. Johnson Kolawole, a resident at Alekuwodo/Akindeko market area in his opinion, remarks that ’’this 3 hours hold-ups and stress on the pedestrians is temporal and will be highly valued when the projects are completed. I plead with the people to be patient with the government. I give my kudos to governor Oyetola for the courage to commence this project’’.
Government’s officials and key officials in the Ministry of Works in the state were seen with their convoy driving around the old garage,okefia, Akindeko, and Odiolowo junctions monitoring the exercise
Drums were rolled out by Oyetola’s supporters, jubilating and singing the praises of the governor at Olaiya and Alekuwodo/Akindeko axis to give colour to the landmark event.
It should be recollected that sporadic announcements prior to Friday 29 were made on the radio and television stations in the state of Osun on the intention of the government to start a preliminary construction of Olaiya junction flyover in Osogbo city. The exercise went smoothly with a huge success.
