Text: Luke 19:41–44
Ministering: Dr. Daniel Olukoya (G.O. MFM Worldwide)
From our scripture, we will take our prayers for today. They are very serious and are destiny-changing prayers.
Luke 19:41–44 (KJV): “And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.”
There is a day in a man’s life:
– which never comes twice.
– that is recorded as a memorial in the heavenlies.
– that is never, never repeated.
To miss that day is to miss destiny. Jesus approached the city of Jerusalem. He could see the people cheering him, singing, and spreading branches on the way, but when He came close, instead of rejoicing with them, He started crying.
And the word used for crying here is different from John 11:35, where it says, “Jesus wept”. That just represents shedding tears. But this particular one is the one used for bursting out in tears.
He started crying because He came close to those He desperately wanted to help, but they would not receive His help. He looked over the whole group of people gathered there. His heart broke, and he started crying because He knew what was to come.
And then His word rang out, saying, “If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.”
I am praying for somebody here. If you understand this prayer, your voice will be the loudest here:
🔥May you not miss your day of glory, in the name of Jesus.
🔥 May you not miss the day of your divine encounter, in the name of Jesus.
So Jesus was saying that the Saviour, the Alpha and Omega, the Peace, and the Great Deliverer was standing at their door, but they would not let Him in because of the hardness of their hearts. They did not recognise Jesus for who He was.
Instead of looking for a saviour, they were looking for a magician. Instead of looking for a Master, they were looking for a servant. They wanted a reward, not a relationship. That made him weep. He wept because it does not work that way.
He emphasised saying “this thy day”. He was telling them that there was something significant about that day, but it was hidden from their eyes. The reason is that that day had potential that would bring things that would bring them peace.
The peace was by their door, but they did not recognise the day of divine visitation. So Jesus burst into tears. He was weeping over the tragedy of their lost opportunity. They had assembled in Jerusalem for passover, but they missed the opportunity of being saved. The saviour was there, but they did not recognise him. Instead of receiving him, they killed him.
What a wonderful opportunity these people had. The King of Glory was there. The most glorious opportunity of the ages passed by. If Jesus were to look at us today, I have a feeling that He would wonder why so many of us are missing opportunities.
One day, blind Bartimaeus left his house. He never knew that that was his day and that his shame was going to be removed. But when he heard the crowd passing by, he asked questions. “What is going on here?”
They said, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” Beginning from that moment, he ran mad. It was holy madness. “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!” He made a loud, violent noise that was disturbing people, and they even asked him to shut up. But it was his day.
He did not miss his day. If blind Bartimaeus had kept quiet that day, he would have died a blind man because Jesus was not going to pass through that route again. He was on his way to die.
===> I am praying for somebody here that you will not miss your day of glory! In the name of Jesus! (a sevenfold amen).
There is a day in a man’s life that is never repeated. This day does not give prior warning, just like blind Bartimaeus was not informed. Thank God he did not miss that day.
A boy came from a very poor home. They sold all the properties in the family to send him to school. He was sent to medical school to qualify as a doctor. He had only one more exam to do to become a doctor.
He had read for seven days without sleeping. He read all night. The day of the exam came. The exam was at 9 a.m. in the morning. He got to the exam centre around 7 a.m. to wait for them to be invited into the examination hall.
Because it was just 2 hours away, he decided to take a nap. By the time he would open his eyes on that table, it was midday. He had missed that exam.
The money that the family had gathered had been wasted. He missed just one day. And that one day left a giant wound. It was one day in which he should have avoided sleep at all costs.
It was one day he should have subjected sleep to a careful portion, but he missed that day.
Jerusalem was unable to read the clock of heaven. It was unable to listen to the heavenly whistle that was blowing. And so, like a drunkard, Jerusalem staggered past its ordained day.
===> I am praying that, by the power of the blood of Jesus, you will not miss your ordained day! In the name of Jesus.
It was in our church many years ago in Akure. As a little boy, a sister used to come to church every morning to sweep and clean. In those days, we had morning and evening services. Morning service was from 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., and everyone would go from church to work.
So this woman was always there, cleaning. She was seeking the fruit of the womb. Every day, she was always coming.
Then one particular day, she decided not to come. She had dressed up to come, but the devil spoke to her and said, “You, are you not ashamed?
Every day, you are going to sweep and clean for other people’s children; you are just wasting time. Come on, sit at home; do not go”.
So she did not come. That day, when the service was about to close, there was a prophecy: “Where is sister Caroline? Where has she gone on a day like this?
I have come from heaven to give her three children, but she is nowhere to be found, and as it is written, “My word that has come out of my mouth cannot come back to me again”, I will now have to give these children to other people. My peace be unto you.”
That was the prophecy. Everybody looked around. The pastor started to cry.
===> May you not miss your ordained day! In the name of Jesus (a sevenfold amen).
If you miss your ordained day, anything you do after that is like a man scoring 100 goals after the referee has blown the final whistle.
If you miss one day in the year in a natural calendar, you have to wait a whole year again to get that day.
However, in the calendar of eternity, that day may not come around again once you miss it.
Listen carefully beloveth, as Jesus passed through Jerusalem that day, He noted that that day was Jerusalem’s day in the calendar of eternity. Jesus described it as “this thy day.”
The repercussions of missing that day for Jerusalem were tragically lamentable.
The following disasters were enumerated for Jerusalem as a consequence of missing that day:
– Evil days shall come.
– Enemies shall surround Jerusalem.
– The wall shall be brought down.
– They and their children shall be crushed.
– The enemy would tear down, stone by stone, the monument of their pride that they had been building for years.
Everyone has a date in destiny with their name attached to it. A day that can be called “this thy day”.
There is a day in the calendar of eternity:
– that has your name attached to it.
– That has your family name attached to it.
– That has your city or nation attached to it.
If that day is missed, there will be terrible consequences. To miss that day will provoke serious disaster and provoke divine lamentation.
===> I am praying again; may you not miss it when your day comes! In the name of Jesus.
Every day may be like every other day because the sun rises and sets the same way. But every day is not like every other day because it may be your destiny day. It may be a day referred to as ‘this thy day.’
A girl surrendered her life to Jesus and was crying bitterly there. The preacher was trying to console her, but she was inconsolable.
The preacher said, What is the matter? She asked the preacher, “Ah, this surrendering of my life to Jesus means bye-bye to my boyfriend?” The preacher said, “That is correct.”
She said, “No, no, no!” and ran out of church crying. She ran across the first street, ran across the second street, and at the third street, a trailer ran her down, and she died on a day that should have been her day of salvation.
===> I am praying one more time; may you not miss your ordained day! In the name of Jesus.
