Recall the long controversy surrounding the death of Mary Habila , a health officer and personal nurse to Works Minister ,David Umahi in Abuja. The family has finally revealed the major cause of her untimely death.
According to a report by The Daily Post on Monday, August 24, 2026, the family of Mary Habila, popularly known as Mara, has revealed that the 25-year-old died from cardiac arrest after living with a heart condition caused by a hole in her heart.
Habila, who was buried in her hometown of Nok, Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Friday, August 21, had been at the centre of public attention following the circumstances surrounding her death in June.
In a biography released by the family, they explained that Habila had been diagnosed with the heart condition and that her health deteriorated despite receiving medical care and support from loved ones.

“Mary Habila lived with a heart condition, having been diagnosed with a hole in her heart,” the family stated.
“Despite medical care and the prayers and support of her family and loved ones, her condition became critical. She sadly passed away following a cardiac arrest.”
Habila was born on September 18, 2000, and was described by her family as sincere, respectful, obedient, loving and jovial.
She trained as a Community Health Extension Worker and worked at Favoured Ground Clinic in Buka Sidi, Lafia, Nasarawa State, before joining Cherry Hills Pharmacy and Stores in Gwarinpa, Abuja.
She later became a personal nurse to Works Minister David Umahi after meeting him through her work in Abuja.
Habila died on June 27, 2026, after she was found unresponsive at Umahi’s residence in Uburu, Ebonyi State.
Police confirmed that she was taken to David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her death initially sparked controversy and calls for an investigation, with both the public and minister requesting an autopsy.
However, her family’s latest account identifies her longstanding heart condition and subsequent cardiac arrest as the cause of her death.
“Though her life was short, Mary will always be remembered for her strength in the face of adversity,” the family said
