GRANDSTYLE RETIREMENT FROM FEDERAL CIVIL SERVICE

Making a journey in life is dependent  on God’s  leading and strength from above.  This is what worked for Mrs  Idowu , on  her  journey in the Nigerian Postal Service(NIPOST), which lasted for 35 Years as she meritoriously  bowed  out of Federal Government Service on September 19th , 2025.

The event  which  began at the headquarters office Osogbo was divided  into  three stages viz: 16th September was for the Postal  Controllers,17th September, for the Postal Officers, while the General one was the 19th September, respectively. It was a period of who was  who  in NIPOST  Osun  State.Citations of all retirees were read  and a sounding applause were given  to acknowledge the officers who had  contributed  their quotas  to the upliftment  of the Nigerian Postal Service(NIPOST).There was the music blaring  , to the pensioners and invitees delight.

It’s noteworthy that all the retirees were called , one after the other and souvenirs  presented to them accompanied with snapshots of photographs with the families, friends and staff  in attendance.

While commenting on Mrs Idowu, one of the staff, Mr Tope Kayode, the assistant  Chief Postal Controller said, Mrs Idowu was a diligent officer and a lover of all, who handled her work with the fear of God:

‘’Mrs Idowu was hardworking. She  loved  her job , took it seriously and did it very well. She  also  tried  to impart  the same principles and discipline into those working  with her without discrimination. She would surely be missed’’, he said.

 

While responding, Mrs Idowu  thanked  the Osun NIPOST Staff for organizing  the retirement  programme:

‘’I thank the Osun State Postal Manager, Mrs Kure and  the staff under her watch,  for organizing this send- off programme. I also thank the invitees present for honouring our invitation.

However,’’ I need to mention here that my success at work was not by my making but by God and you and your unalloyed cooperation . Without your cooperation , the story would have been different . I thank you all. I  enjoin  you  that are still in the service of NIPOST to please continue with your good work .’’

’’ I see you as Managers, administrators, and future Post Master General of the Federation. So , Please, be consistent  and take your work seriously and God will crown your efforts with a brilliant success’’she prayed.

 

According to Mrs Idowu ,’’ when I and others in our cadre were employed in 1990, our salaries were nothing to write home about. But with the grace of God and faith in Him we were able to weather the storm. Unlike now that  that your salary is  better than that of the past . So, with God  on your side, do the work well and God will reward you for doing the right thing ‘’ Mrs Idowu counseled.

The  grand finale of  the send -off ceremony was  the thanksgiving and prayer session  at Mrs Idowu’s residence in Osogbo.

Families and friends, Well-wishers neighbours,Children , NIPOST Staff , Church members and the Osun Reporters Crew were in attendance.

There was a short but inspiring message of thanksgiving delivered by  Pastor Oyebanji Elijah  of the Mountain of Fire And Miracles Ministries(MFM), who took his sermon  from  the book of Psalm 103 verses 1-end ‘’

‘’ Bless the Lord , O my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord , O my soul, and forget not all His benefits…….’’ . The  Psalm , basically reminding all in attendance  to always  ponder’ and thank God  for what He has done for them- because , there lies their blessings.

Pastor Oyebanji thanked God  for the life of Mrs Idowu ,’’ who gloriously retired  from the Federal Government service with the fear of God  going by the numerous testifiers here and my long encounter with her and her family. I also thank God for her life , for good health’’ . He prayed that’’ God will journey along with her on her retirement   and her future endeavours, as she steps  into the future with God as her focus’’.

 

‘’I wish you and your family, a long life in good health and I pray  that God  will continue  to give you many reasons  to always thank God for  your life , and your family, in Jesus name’’, he prayed.

 

The thanksgiving service was graced with songs of praises to God Almighty. Encomium were showered on  Mrs Idowu  by those who knows her well including the former staff members, families and neighbours.

 

While reading her citation by one of her children, Success, she went through her profile where she read about her educational background up to the university level, her professional history and various professional courses she undergone  while in the Civil Service until her retirement as the Head  of Operations of Osun State Nigerian Postal Service(NIPOST), Osogbo.

Giving a testimony about Mrs Idowu’s stewardship while in the government service, Mrs Olowu has this to say: ‘’Mrs Idowu was very approachable. She loved  to teach  others about  the rudiments  of the office duties and very caring. She loved her job and tried to impart  same to people working  with her with the fear of God in all she does, we shall surely  remember her for the better things she had contributed  to the progress of NIPOST Osun State’’ , she said.

In her  response to all the words of encouragement showered on her , Mrs Idowu  thanked everybody present to witness her retirement thanksgiving Ceremony. She prayed for God’s provision, guidance and good health for them . She also admonished those staff still working with NIPOST to always be up and doing in their daily assignments in the office and be prayerful. Her prayer for them was to also retire peacefully when it comes to their turn.

 

Retirement Cake was cut and photographs with  the invited guests and former NIPOST staff, neighbours, families and other attendees, while simultaneously  guests were treated  with delicacies of foods and beverages. To show  her  joy and appreciation to those   in attendance to grace the occasion, take home gifts were distributed accordingly.

The Master of Ceremony (MC) at the occasion, Mr Seyi Olagunju was very wonderful. With his mastery of words at each segment of the event, he was the cynosure of all eyes with his Queens English, and allowing the Disc Jockey(DJ) to apply his music appropriately , while the NIPOST dance troupe,also performed brilliantly to the delight of people in attendance

Another  fantastic and colourful moment  within the event was the coincidental Birthday of Mrs Idowu’s mother . The aged mother took to the floor, danced admirably as invited guests rose to appreciate her and showered gifts on her for attaining another glorious age.

 

 

 

 

In a separate interview with ‘The Interviews  Nigeria’ correspondent on how Mrs Idowu feels at retirement,this is what she said: ” I Give all glory and adoration to God Almighty. I thank God that Iam alive.

 

I joined the Nigerian Postal Service 35 Years ago, precisely 1990.  About how I feel,even some months before now,I have prepared my Hand- Over -.Note.So I thank God for freedom to be on my own. Now I can go to anywhere I want to go with ease without any official bureaucracy. It is now. me and my family and the service of God. May His name be glorified,amen.

Vote of thanks was given by Mrs Idowu’s hubby who eulogized  his wife , as a mother of mothers, caring  and God fearing . He thanked everybody present at the occasion and prayed for a safe journey back to various destinations.
