…henceforth offenders to be prosecuted -Olojede (Transportation Commissioner)
Osun State Government has warned residents, builders, tipper drivers and others against hipping or dumping of sand and other building materials on the road sides within the city centres.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Oyedele in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo said it is a careless act that is capable of causing hindrance to other road users and has the potential of causing road acvidents which may lead  to loss of lives.
He stated further that a lot of lives have been lost to the very careless act from builders and tipper operators, stressing that government will henceforth, take actions against offenders.
While noting that people leave the building materials on the road for weeks and months before making use of them, the Commissioner said it is an act that poses a lot of danger to road users.
Hon. Oyedele called on members of the public, especially motorists to quickly report any of such cases if found to the Ministry of Transportation at the government Secretariat for necessary action to be taken.
The statement reads in part, “It has been brought to our notice at the Osun State Ministry of Transportation that some heartless people are dumping sand and othe building materials on the road side.
‘They are heartless people because it is an act that is capable of keeping many people on the road for several hours as a result of the attendant hold up that will build up ocassioned by the sand dumped on the road.
“People should know that what they are doing is completely wrong and dangerous. You can’t be hipping your sand on the road side, you are destroying the road and at the same time causing hindrance to other road users.
“Government will no longer take it lightly with any offender, it is our duty to protect the interest of other road users and make our roads free and safe at all times”. Oyedele stated.
