The Pan Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, on Wednesday, described the amended charges against the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, as an exercise in futility.
In a statement issued by the group’s General – Secretary, Sola Ebiseni, with the amended charges, it appeared that the Federal Government had come to its wits end in the case with the separatist group leader.
Ebiseni stressed that the government had been involved in petty politicking over the trial; stated that the Attorney –General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami had not taken his duty as the Chief Law officer and Adviser of the Federal Government with utmost seriousness.
The Yoruba group also alleged that the Minister of Communications, Isa Pantami, who had made inciting statements had never been investigated but the government had been exercising unnecessary energy on Kanu.
‘’Without prejudice to the determination of the case by the court, it is clear that its end will certainly compound agitations on the national question, an ill-wind that blows the Buhari administration and Nigeria no good.
‘’It is saddening, speaks of multiple standards in the governance of Nigeria and a sad commentary on the unity of Nigeria and this same government has in the hallowed recesses of its administration and in charge of a most sensitive Ministry, of Communications IsaPantami whose statement s is of a higher incendiary propensity than those of Kanu and with possible aggravated heinous consequences’’.
