The overall best candidate in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Daniella Owoeye, who scored an impressive 372 marks out of 400, has revealed that she putposely
avoided romantic relationships throughout her secondary school years in order to be fully engrossed in her academic studies.
Speaking in an interview with PUNCH on Saturday, May 16, 2026, Owoeye explained that she has never been in a romantic relationship and does not currently have a boyfriend. She said she does not have a boyfriend and has never had one. She added that some of her classmates were in relationships, but they were not part of her close circle.

She noted that her success was not coincidental but the result of discipline, focus, and careful lifestyle choices.
According to her, she was intentional about the kind of friendships she maintained, ensuring that she stayed away from influences that could distract her from her studies.
In her words:
“I don’t have a boyfriend, and I’ve never had one. some of my classmates did. However, they weren’t part of my close circle. I was mindful of the kind of friends I kept, and I avoided influences that could distract me from my goals.”
