….Calls It a Testament to Nigerians’ Unwavering Faith in Democracy

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that at least 505,906 Nigerians have pre-registered online for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within only five days of its launch.

The commission described the early response as a strong signal of citizens’ eagerness to take part in the democratic process.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, represented by National Commissioner May Agbamuche-Mbu, disclosed this in Abuja during the official flag-off of a nationwide sensitisation campaign.

The campaign began with a lively roadshow from INEC headquarters in Maitama, passing through Banex Plaza in Wuse, and ending at the busy Wuse Market.

Yakubu explained that as of midnight on August 22, over half a million citizens had completed online pre-registration.

He added that the exercise, which commenced on August 18, would move into the physical registration stage on Monday, August 25, 2025. At that stage, both new applicants and those who pre-registered online will complete the process at designated INEC offices where their biometrics will be captured.

The chairman said physical CVR will be conducted across 811 centres nationwide, including all 774 Local Government Area offices and state headquarters, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, assured the public of the commission’s preparedness, noting that offices across the 36 states and the FCT are ready to attend to applicants from August 25.

In the FCT, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris urged registration officers to uphold professionalism during the exercise. Speaking at a two-day training workshop for 66 officers from the six Area Councils and the FCT Head Office, he stressed the importance of attentiveness and high work ethics.

Administrative Secretary Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye also highlighted the defined processes in ensuring the success of the exercise, urging participants to adapt to new innovations introduced into the CVR system.
