The Special Adviser to the Governor on Emergency Management, Hon. Emiola Fakeye, has extended Government sympathy to the residents of Iwo and Iwoye affected by a devastating windstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, resulting in destruction of properties worth millions of naira in the area.
Hon. Fakeye, accompanied by a team from the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA), conducted an on-the-spot verification and assessment exercise to gauge the extent of the damages caused by the rainstorm in Iwo and Iwoye, Osun State.
Expressing her condolences to the victims, Hon. Fakeye fervently prayed against the recurrence of such disasters in the area and across Osun State. She urged the affected individuals to submit pictures of the damaged items along with their requests to OSEMA for prompt relief gesture.
Mr. Jide Falade, the General Manager of OSEMA, acknowledged the inevitability of natural disasters but emphasized the importance of vigilance and timely repairs to mitigate their impact. He assured the victims that he would submit comprehensive reports to the relevant authorities for necessary recommendations, highlighting Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to the welfare of the citizenry.
It would be recalled in Iwo, areas such as Idiagbede, Jayeola, Eesu, and Agbojagun, among others bore the brunt of the storm, with approximately one hundred houses affected. Meanwhile, in Iwoye, Pastor Aderibigbe Olukayode has reported damage to around thirty houses and several NEPA poles.
Mr. Adebayo Dauda Aremu and Lamidi Wakili appealed for support from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Government, citing financial constraints in purchasing materials for repairs, especially amidst rising commodity prices. They emphasized the urgent need for assistance to alleviate their plight.
