In her tireless efforts at ensuring Women are on the front line of food production in the country, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has flagged off the “Renewed Hope Initiative” for Women in agriculture in the South-West.
The wife of the Governor of Osun, Chief Mrs Titilola Adeleke and her counterparts from other states in the South-West graced the occasion which took place at the Cultural Center, Abeokuta, Ogun State
At the event, it was stated that the intervention in Agriculture becomes very imperative as a major way by the government to empower women in the country, address unemployment and combat food insecurity facing Nigeria as a nation.
It would be recalled that a sensitization programme on the importance of Women in Agriculture to that effect was held in Osun state last year aimed at re-awakening the actively agile women on the need to participate in agriculture.
The campaign led by the wife of Osun state, Chief Mrs Titilola Adeleke has generated reciprocation by the Wives of Local Government Chairmen across all local councils and area offices of Osun.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu by demonstration of her commitment towards better livelihood for Women and people with disability announced the sum of N500,000 each for Twenty Farmers in each of the South-West states comprising Osun, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti and N100,000 for 100 people living with disabilities in each state.
Speaking on the development, Chief ( Mrs)Titilola Adeleke described the gesture as legendary and unprecedented in the history of Nigerian First ladies.
While expressing confidence that the benevolence of Senator Oluremi Tinubu will spur women in Osun State and other states in Nigeria to greater heights, she advocated the need for women to continue to make their impacts felt in all schemes.
Mrs Adeleke who enjoined the beneficiaries of the initiative to make good use of the gesture for food sufficiency and security in their respective states,also charged other philanthropist individuals at the state and national levels to emulate the gesture of the wife of the President of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
