In ardent preparation for the 2026 Governorship Election in Osun State, the Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) ,Osun State, had a Press Conference on Wednesday at the Agbaje Media Centre , Osogbo where major stakeholders were briefed on its preparedness to make the 2026 Governorship Election in the State a free, fair and credible one.

According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke”Today’s event is to address two major issues in political activities of Osun State; First is to address the issue of continuous Voter Registration which will commence soon. The second is to kick start the process of 2026 Governorship Election in Osun State with pasting of official Notice of Election in all 30 local government offices of INEC in Osun State including the Area office at Modakeke”.

While briefing Stakeholders of the Commission’s preparedness for the 2026 governorship election , Mr Agboke said, ”Going by the time table released by the headquarters of the Commission, the conduct of party primaries , including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries will start on 24th November, 2025 and end on 15th December 2025.” ”This is necessary to enable political parties democratically nominate candidates for the election required ..,he said.
Giving the information at his disposal on Voter registration in Osun, the Resident Electoral Commissioner said, there are piles of PVC yet to be collected at INEC Offices in the State. He gave the statistics as follow:
Number of Registered Voters-1,954, 800
Number of Permanent Voter Cards(PVCs) collected-1,594,006
Number of Uncollected PVCs-360,794
He therefore, enjoined all Stakeholders to educate their pepple in their various domains -that it’s not enough to register but to also collect their voter cards. ”Let me reiterate here, that as it stands now, NO PVC, NO VOTING”, he echoed.
Voters are advised to first visit the INEC portal-cvr.inecnigeria.org to give their personal detail. Physical biometric capture at designated Centres across the State will then follow one week after, August 25,2025.
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY
Mr Agboke said, people with disabilities will be adequately taken care of. ”We have made provisions to ensure that person with disabilities are well taken care of in the same manner with person without disabilities”. ” Special provisions have been put in place for the diabled persons such as -Braille ballot guide for visually impaired voters, magnifying glasses for persons with low vision, Assistive listening devices for hearing impairment and allowing priority voting queues for PWDs, including elderly and pregnant women,” he said.
VOTE BUYING
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Agboke counselled that ”the menace of vote buying and violence would not be allowed. That stakeholders and individuals should take the sermon across to the people at various meetings and campaign grounds; same at religious centres.
”Electorates should be educated to eschew vote buying and selling by anyone who may want to trade with their votes, he said.
SECURITY ON ELECTION DAY
Major security personnel at the conference pledged their support for the exercise and assured that the exercise shall be peaceful with everybody’s cooperation.
Mr Agboke in his contribution to the matter of security said,” All of you will be secured but play to the rules so as not to be victims of circumstance.”
