After three decades abroad, Jackie has returned home with virtually nothing to her name, mirroring her departure
The woman found solace in an unfinished house, which served as a refuge upon her return with her nine-year-old son.
A woman has narrated how she recently flew back home with nothing to her name after three decades in the United Kingdom.
Jackie revealed her life in the UK became unbearable.
Jackie moved to the UK immediately after finishing high school as her family wanted her to have a better life and opportunities. However, 30 years later, she has returned exactly as she left.
Speaking in a YouTube interview, with Lynne Zaabu World, the woman recalled that her life in the UK started taking a turn for the worse after the COVID-19 pandemic because life became unbearable for her.
“During the Covid period, things were working out for me because I could work from home and still cater to the needs of my nine-year-old son. However, after the pandemic, things were tough after I lost my job,” she recalled.
Jackie said each job she wanted required her to work from the office, and this became impossible as she could barely manage to take care of her son.
“This really disturbed me, even in my health. My blood pressure rose, and I was not doing well. My son, too, was even in the hospital. It was tough, and that is when I decided to return home to Uganda,” she said in the interview.
The mother of three also admitted that she was not in a good place financially, as she had been scammed of her life savings in a land deal.
“After I was scammed, I used the rest of my savings in a business venture that I thought would be profitable, but I ended up losing my money. That is why I came back the way I left,” she said.
Jackie’s unfinished house
Jackie has been living in her unfinished house with her nine-year-old son since returning home.
She thanked her niece, whom she trusted with the construction of the house, and though it is unfinished, she is happy that it became her fallback plan when she moved back home.
“Though I am not destitute or poor, I was so used to having my own money, and so now I am really struggling with the lack of that. Things are already very expensive here and without a steady flow of income, it becomes hard,” she said.
The woman suggested that anyone with a steady flow of income should not relocate abroad because life is not necessarily easier.
