A report by the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, January 15, 2026, indicates Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally ordered the withdrawal of two criminal charges earlier filed against her by the Federal Government. She describes the outcome as a victory of justice over what she termed political persecution.
In a statement shared on her verified Facebook page on Thursday, the senator expressed appreciation to God and to Nigerians who stood by her throughout the period of legal uncertainty.
She particularly thanked the people of Kogi State and her constituents in Kogi Central for their steadfast support, noting that their encouragement gave her strength during what she described as a trying time.
According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, the discontinuance of the cases confirmed her long-standing belief that the charges were deliberately fabricated and driven by political motives.
She maintained that the prosecutions were part of a calculated attempt by certain individuals to misuse state institutions to harass and intimidate her.
The lawmaker also acknowledged President Tinubu’s role in ensuring that the matter was resolved, stating that his directive for the cases to be withdrawn demonstrated his commitment to fairness and the rule of law.
According to Natasha, the President’s intervention allowed truth and justice to prevail.
Similarly ,Akpoti-Uduaghan praised several prominent figures and civil society groups who publicly defended her during the controversy.
Among those she mentioned were former Education Minister Obiageli Ezekwesili, human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), members of the Womanifesto coalition, Ayesha Yesufu, Opeyemi Adamolekun, the Enough is Enough group, SERAP, the Nigerian Bar Association and other supporters who spoke out in her favour.
She extends special gratitude to her family and political team, describing her husband, children, office staff and members of the Peoples Democratic Party as her strongest support system throughout the ordeal.
The senator clarified that the formal notices withdrawing the cases were filed on December 12, 2025, stressing that the decision had nothing to do with any church.
