The Delta State Government has issued a new directive prohibiting public servants from wearing bushy beards, artificial braided or dyed hair, long eyelashes, fake nails, and other forms of what it calls “indecent appearance.”
The circular, released on Wednesday by the Office of the Head of Service, instructs all civil servants to maintain a neat, professional, and modest look that reflect their ranks. Male staff are banned from growing bushy beards or wearing certain traditional caps, including the “Resource Control” or “Papas” caps. Female staff must avoid artificial braided or dyed hair, long eyelashes, and fake nails.
The directive also updates dress code standards. Senior officers must wear full corporate suits, while junior officers are expected to wear trousers, shirts, and ties.
Traditional attire is permitted only on Fridays or during special events, as long as it is clean, decent, and modest.
Female employees should wear trouser suits, skirt suits, or corporate gowns below the knee with sleeves; sleeveless outfits, spaghetti straps, and revealing clothing are strictly banned.
Heads of departments are responsible for monitoring compliance, sending home staff who breach the rules, and enforcing sanctions for repeat offenders.
The government says the dress code aims to promote discipline, professionalism and decorum in the public service Rules No 04314,which forbids officers from appearing in office in inappropriate or immodest dressing.
