Osun State Head of Service, Mr Ayanleye Aina has described Osun State as a centre for the cultural economy and a state where many known cultural stars and celebrities have their Cultural backgrounds.
![]() Mr Aina who was represented by the Coordinating Director, of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Femi Ogundun, made these known at the New Year Cultural Tourism Carnival, organized by the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism held in Osogbo.
The HOS noted that Osun is blessed with cultural legends who have contributed their quotas to Cultural
promotion such as the late Oyin Adejobi and late Duro Ladipo among others who started their careers in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital.
![]() He stressed further that there are Cultural and Tourism potentials like Osun Osogbo sacred Grove, Olumirin waterfalls in Erin-just and Owala Dam to mention but a view which if properly harnessed can boost the economy of the state.
He encouraged all interested groups to partner with the State Government to improve the many potentials and status of the state.
While speaking, the Chairman, House Committee on Culture and Tourism , Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Yinka Adetoyi disclosed that Culture should be part of the up bringing of the children just as he frowned at the rate at which foreign Culture has eroded the Yoruba beautiful Cultures given to us by our forefathers.
He advised people not to allow foreign religion to snatch away the indigenous Culture from them, emphasizing that, “our ignorant to cultural herbs for the benefits of our health has sent many to an early grave”.
In her own words, the Coordinating Director, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Solabomi Akinsola, thanked Governor Ademola Adeleke’s led administration, for its interest in promoting culture and tourism. She encouraged everyone to make sure they do not throw away Yoruba traditional Culture at the expense of foreign Cultures.
Earlier, in her address of welcome, the Director, Hotels and Hospitality Management of the Ministry, Mrs Sola Akinyemi, appreciated the state Government for its support in promoting Culture and Tourism in the state.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Salu of Edunabon, Oba Kehinde Adesoji Olatunde and Alasipa of Asipa, Oba Mufutau Babawale Oyehan, enjoined Osun people and the society at large to make Yoruba culture their priority by imbibing it in their children.
In their separate paper presentations, Mr Saheed
Amusa and Dr Sonubi enjoined the leadership of the State to commercialize the State tourist attractions to make them a source of generating revenue for the state.
They enjoined government at all levels to create an enabling environment for culture and tourism development.
The two Culture and Tourism experts added that the security of the state and the country at large should be looked into for proper guidance and counselling.
The Osun State new year carnival is an annual program organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism with the intention of promoting traditional Culture and tourism potentialities of the State.
