ABRUPT Redeployment of Osun REC Agboke: Allegedly A Calculated Attempt To Influencing Electoral Process In Osun- Hon. Egbedun

Today Thursday April 9,2026, at the Osun State House of Assembly Complex, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has raised a red alert over what he described as a deliberate and troubling pattern capable of influencing the electoral process in the state as Osun Gubernatorial election draws closer.

While addressing members of the press, the Speaker revealed that the Assembly had been notified of the sudden resignation of the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

More concerned, according to the Speaker, are credible reports suggesting an ongoing redeployment of key electoral personnel across Osun State.

These deployments, according to him, may affect administrative secretaries, electoral officers, assistant electoral officers, and ICT personnel, positions critical to the conduct and credibility of elections.

He noted that such widespread reshuffling has not been observed in Ekiti State, which precedes Osun in the electoral calendar, raising a fundamental question: Why Osun?

The Speaker further stated that there is credible information linking these developments to the influence of Osun Ex-Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, a claim that underscores the political sensitivity surrounding the situation.

All these notwithstanding, the Assembly emphasized that no amount of administrative maneuvering can override the will of the people.

“The people of Osun State are politically conscious, vigilant, and resolute,” Egbedun said.

“No calculated effort, no matter how structured, can suppress their democratic choice.”

He also disclosed reports of alleged plans within the Ife/Ijesha Senatorial District to compromise the process by placing partisan actors in key electoral roles, including returning officers and supervisors. Such actions, he warned, are unacceptable and will be firmly resisted.

The Assembly called on all officials deployed for electoral duties in Osun State to operate strictly within the provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act, stressing that the integrity of the process must not be compromised.

Anything short of a free, fair, and credible election, the Speaker noted, would be strongly resisted by the people.

Egbedun also called on the international community, development partners, and democratic observers to closely monitor developments in Osun State as they unfold.

Reaffirming the position of the Assembly, Egbedun stated that the demand of the people remains clear and unwavering: a free, fair, and credible election.

“Osun State is politically aware, vigilant, and deeply committed to the electoral process,” he asserted.
