The Oyo State government has outlawed Trading at the widely known Bola Ige International Market, popularly known as Gbagi Market,in Ibadan ,Oyo State capital.
This was contained in a release issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for information and orientation,Mr Dotun Oyelade . The commissioner for investment,Trade, Cooperative and industry announced the enforcement on Thursday.
“The ban will curb rising insecurity and restore order at the market. The enforcement will take effect from Sunday,July 27,2025.
The enforcement is a direct result of series of consultations and meetings held with the market leaders and stakeholders overtime”,the statement said.
The commissioner buttressed the decision saying that criminal elements were seriously using the opportunity of few people at the market environment on Sunday to perpetrate unlawful activities which led to the engagements with market leaders after the government decided to make the ban formal and put enforcement law in place.
In order to protect traders and maintain orderliness,the Sunday Trading ban was originally introduced by the market leaders themselves,the Commissioner said.
