…..warns against Truancy and Dereliction of Duty
The Chairman, Osun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Comrade Temitope Mustapha Adeyemi has charged the newly appointed principals of secondary schools in the state to be more committed and dedicated to their duties, just as he warned them against truancy and dereliction of duties.
The chairman gave the charge during the induction programme organized by the commission for the newly appointed principals of secondary schools across the state.
According to the Chairman, “you are expected to complement the efforts of the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency Asiwaju Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke who has given you the opportunity to be elevated to the status of Principals which is the peak of your career.”
He described the roles and responsibilities of a principal as multifaceted,
imploring them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics as they embark on the new journey of leadership cadre.
He also reiterated the commitment of the commission to supporting them by providing guidance, resources and training to enhance their leadership capacity.
Speaking at the program, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Mr. Muritala Jimoh enjoined the principals to develop a good leadership spirit in carrying out their duties. He added that, they should not be money conscious, but work towards academic excellence in their various schools.
Earlier in her address, the Executive Secretary TESCOM, Mrs Olufunke Fabusuyi admonished the new principals to liaise with their superiors in the job who are better equipped based on their wealth of experience to put them through when needed.
She also maintained that, record keeping ensures accurate keeping of essential information, highlighting necessary records to be properly kept by the school principal to include, lesson notes, diaries, registers, inspection book among others.
Also speaking at the program, the guest lecturer, a former tutor general permanent secretary, Mr. Kola Buhari, described a principal as a communicator and guidance counselor whose roles include, division of works, authority and responsibilities, human relations, teachers’ reinforcement among others.
In their separate goodwill messages, the state NUT chairman, Mr. Muritala Fatade and the state ANCOPPS President, Mrs Esther Awoyemi urged the new principals to ensure they impact excellent knowledge in their students in order to build successful future leaders.
