The Mass Communication Department, Fountain University, Osogbo is in the mood of various Epic Essence Events this week.

Tuesday ,21st, witnessed the Facebook MeetUp 2024 with the theme: Network, Learn and Engage at The Fountain University,Osogbo.
One of the resource Speakers W,Afeez Winjobi took the podium narrating the What,Why,,Who and How to make the judicious use of the Facebook in this digital era.
According to him,the essence of having a Facebook account is not only yo make friendships but to connect with people of substance globally and able to secure good business breakthroughs.
Opening Facebook
Account:
Therefore, opening a Facebook account is not just to done anyhow but with a focus.”You need to put the right things on your status.” This is because your status is your brand” “Your status is what you have as your ex experience or skills.” “If people cannot connect with your brand,you have not really started,”he said.

“Try to identify your skills- What you do,and what you can do” ” You need a customer based identity or may be,fans based if that is your goal”.

The Guest resource person goes further to counsel the students participants to develop a brand voice, especially,if that is their niche.”If yours is writing,show what you have written or working on at present”.

While some use their voice to negatively create tension on the internet some use theirs to create good emotions by showing the emotive
actions. Some write on love, things around them and share to readers.

Profile Picture:
Profile picture on social media be it Facebook, Instagram, twitter (×)etc,according to the lecturer,is a representation of who you are”.
He said,”don’t post your childhood picture in your handle but recent one.” “It is your brand,and people want to know whether they can connect with you or not. They want to know your real self.”
” Your profile is to create a balance of of who you are,so make it real”.

Content Strategy:
“When talking of making good.money on Facebook or other social media platforms, Afeez says,” Content Strategy is one of the fundamentals.
“Apart from.having good content in your post, you must know the time to post your audio, write-ups video etc.”

According to him,”you may choose to post early in the morning, or in the evening before six o’ clock,when people would be able to read your postings.You can then share to friends,customers and your target audience”,he advised.

Engaging:

According to Mr Afeez,”one need to engage his target audience and to do this effectively, you can join professional and profitable groups.
“Engage your audience daily or on weekly basis to build further on what you do”. “Make it real or transparent and be consistent with it”,he said.

Interactive Segment:

The Interactive segment tagged Fun! Fun!! Fun!!! Was designed to build the students psychologically.
Students were made to ask questions from a colleague on any subject that relates with the personality of the other while the other was.to answer either rightly or wrongly.
This was to determine genuineness of such personality via his response or otherwise such that they can use to decipher fake friends or customers on the social media. It was psychologically loaded.

The public Relations Officer of the University, Mr Taoheed Alimi and others talked at length on growth. That students must pursue personal growth.

In their delivery, they reminded the students that the essence of the programme theme is “to equip yourself now for the time you leave the four walls of the University. ”
Don’t live only with the idea of Mass Communication. Read widely and know something about everything for your personal growth; get the knowledge”.

Networking and Mentorship:

Networking, and Mentorship as mentioned by these resource persons at the event are very essential to utilize for business on social media.
“Your Facebook account,Instagram etc is what you are”.Rebrand it,reposition your brand” Convert your contact to contract and be consistent with it”. “Don’t be double faced on the internet”. Don’t be a professional in real life but another thing on the internet be what you are really are”.)

“What value and quality do you bring to your Network? The answer- “Bring values and morals into your Networks. ”

Finally,students participants were asked to receive Mentorship.
“You need a mentor; make yourself available to be mentored and build quality student-teacher relationships while in school for the future aspirations”.

There were questions and answers while the programme lasted and presentation of certificates of attendance to guest Speakers and students participants.
