A court heard Rachel Marcia , from Tameside , received payment from 97 people linked to prisoners.
A Tameside woman raked in almost ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY THOUSAND POUNDS(#120,000) after making 90 visits to smuggle phones into prisons .
Rachel Marcia worked with a co-defendants to take phones into prisons across the country , Leeds Crown Court heard.
The prosecutors said , the Mum –of six- receive payments from almost 100 people who could be linked to prisoners .
The 35-year-old was due to be sentenced last year but with the imminent birth of her child at the time, it was adjourned to last week.
Marcia will be joined in custody by her new baby , Yorkshire Live reports.
The court heard January 25th how Marcia ‘acted as a team with her co-defendant , who was sentenced at an earlier date.
Prosecutor Anthony Dunne told the Court: ‘’Both offenders repeatedly took them(phones) into prisons, passing items to prisoners by social visits…. They were paid money into their bank accounts by third parties’’.
The court heard that by the time of her arrest, in 2018, Marcia had made 3119,825.45 by smuggling the phones into prisons including HMP Lindholme in Doncaster.
Mr Dunne said, ”They were both regular visitors to the prisons until they were banned.
‘’There were 7 visitors profiles in her name with 74 visits to prisons.’’.
Both defendants visited a number of prisoners. Phones evidence showed they used other identities to carry out other visits. Both defendants got deposits into their bank accounts.
Over Ninety –Four-Thousand Pounds(#94,000) was deposited in 2017 into Rachel Marcia bank accounts.’’
The court heard that some amounts were between #150-#270 Pounds, while others paid over #1000 each , Mr Dunne said.
‘’97 people who made payments could be shown to be linked to serving prisoners due to visits and phone contact lists.
‘’Throughout the indictment period , Rachel Marcia declared no income to HMRC. ‘’It was said , she was arrested in May 2018, and although her phone records only went back 2017, she could be linked to her partner , Mathew Wilson , who was also a serving prisoner.
Marcia , of Manor Road , Hyde, featured in relevant material on her co-defendant’s phone , including messages about items being taken into prison.
Mr Dunne said: ‘’ These shoe the defendants acted as a team, providing their services together to prison inmates…
‘’They described methods of concealing items, including hiding a phone in a box of washing powder and they described them as a team , taking satisfaction of fooling the prison systems’’.
The pair were charged in March 2022 and Marcia went on to plead guilty bringing list B articles into prisons and acquiring criminal property in relation to the same activity.
