A London Court today, Friday 5th of May 2023, has sentenced the former Deputy Senate president of Nigeria, Ike Eweremadu to nine years and eight months in gaol for a device to harvest a young Nigerian’s kidney for
his sick daughter.
Ekeremadu’s wife, Beatrice in her own contribution, was slammed with four years, and six months in jail while the accomplice medical Doctor, a Nigerian, Obinna Obeta was given 10 years sentence.
You will recall that Ekeremadu, his wife Beatrice and the medical doctor Obeta were convicted of conspiracy to have arranged the trip of a young man David Nwamini to Britain in order to harvest his kidney for Ekeremadu’s ailing daughter, Sonia, who needed a kidney transplant.
The prosecutor Huge Davies told the Jury that Ekweremadu’s behaviour showed ‘ entitlement’, dishonesty and hypocrisy.
The Jury said the trio of Ekweremade, his wife, Beatrice and Dr Obinna conspired to lure the 21-year-old Lagos street hawker to London to exploit him for his kidney.
It should be noted that the verdict is considered the first of its kind in the UK under the ”Modern Slavery” Act 2015.
