PDP Okowa’s constituency Presidential Election Result accused of Over-voting

The Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected the presidential results of the local government area of the Peoples Democratic Party’s vice-presidential candidate and state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, citing over-voting.

This is in line with section 51(2) of the Electoral Act 2022 which provides that where the number of votes cast at an election in any polling unit exceeds the number of accredited voters, the presiding officer shall cancel the result of the election in that polling unit.

Nigerians cast their votes at various polling units across the country on Saturday to decide who will be the country’s president, vice president, and members of the Senate and House of Representatives for the next four years.

Eighteen presidential candidates contested to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari when he leaves office on the 29th of May, 2023.
