Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has stated that the Commission will not transmit raw election figures on Saturday.
This was revealed while speaking at a meeting with leaders of Foreign Election Observation Missions in Nigeria.
Prof. Yakubu explained that Presiding Officers would rather, be required to use the Bimodal Voter Authentication Syystem BVAS to photograph the results sheets of each polling unit and upload them on the INEC Result viewing Portal IREV for Nigerians.
Mahmood explained that the reason the electoral commission would not be transmitting the raw material electronically is that raw figures are vulnerable to hackers.
He noted that the difference between Kenya’s 2015 election and Nigeria’s 2023 election is that raw figures would not be transferred for collation.
‘’ After the process is completed at the polling unit, the image of the polling unit result will be taken by the BVAS and uploaded unto what we call the INE Result Viewing Portal, where citizens can see polling unit level results as the processes are completed at the polling unit level’’ he said.
