The Lagos State Government today, Monday, July 5, 2021, will host 17 Southern Governors in the region.
The Interviews Nigeria gathered that the key issues of overcoming insecurity in the Southern part of the country, Secessionist agitations, and restructuring may likely dominate their agenda at the meeting which shall be held at the Centre of Excellence, Lagos.
According to Daily Champion Correspondent, the security implications of recent re-arrest and extradition of the leader of the proscribed Leader of The Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and also the manhunt for Sunday Igboho, the arrowhead of the Yoruba Nation agitation by Department of State Services,(DSS) will also be discussed at the meeting..
The parley, according to the source, is a follow-up to the 11th May 2021 meeting in Delta State now referred to as Asaba Declaration, in which the Southern Governors demanded an end to open grazing in the region among other resolutions.
Recollect that the last meeting also focused on the recent occurrences in the polity and security challenges in the country, especially in their respective States.
The Lagos meeting Scheduled to ho;ld at the State House Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos is expected to welcome all the seventeen(17) governors from the regions.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso had earlier confirmed that the parley would discuss issues relating to insecurity, true Federalism, Open Grazing, State Police, Restructuring, Food Security, and many others.
The last meeting, to be recalled, emanated from the alleged security threat by the Fulani Jihadists of Usman Dan Fodio descent, threatening to cause mayhem in Asaba and Agbor if the governor failed to rescind his decision on open grazing while the Niger Delta Militant also vowed dire consequences if the threat is carried out.
