NO More Extra-Lessons Afer Official Closing Hour In Lagos Public Schools-Commissioner For Basic And Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun

The Lagos State Government  has made the pronouncement  that, it would  no longer overlook or tolerate  teachers  or schools  that made use of the extra-one  hour  after the official closing hour for extra lessons , which are paid for by the pupils.

The Commissioner for Basic  and Secondary  Education , Jamiu  Alli-Balogun, said this while inaugurating a block of classrooms  and furniture  at the Amuwo-Odofin   Junior  High School Complex.

Commissioner  Alli-Balogun said,  ‘’the extra –hour  is for  extra-curricular  activities , therefore students must be encouraged  to participate in some  of these social activities and clubs’’.

Alli-Balogun  expressed  his displeasure  at the practice where  the first lesson  in many public schools  in Lagos State  is often ‘’killed’’ by teachers ,threatening  to deal with  any teacher caught  for dereliction of duties.

‘’ Do your  job  at the right time between  8am-2pmand leave the extra –hour  either for  reading or  extra-curricular  activities.’’

‘’We would no longer  condone using  that time  for fee-paying  extra-lessons  in our schools;educaion is free in  Lagos State, and nobody should be charging  any fee  for anything’’.
