Osun Accord Chairman Survives Assassination Attempt, Police Launch Manhunt for Gunmen

 

 

 

 

 

The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Hon. Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, is currently receiving treatment in hospital after surviving a gun attack by suspected assailants on Wednesday night.
The attack reportedly occurred around 9:50 p.m. near the Osogbo Community Bank area of the MDS axis in Osogbo.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

According to our source Ajibola and some of his associates were travelling in a blue Toyota Corolla when they were ambushed and shot by unidentified gunmen. The victims narrowly escaped death and were rushed to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where they are receiving medical attention.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Reacting to the incident, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, condemned the attack and urged security agencies to ensure those behind the crime are brought to justice.

 

 

 

Describing the incident as unfortunate, Alimi called on the police to conduct a thorough and professional investigation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“This is an unfortunate incident which should not be allowed to go uninvestigated. The culprits must be brought to book,” he said.

 

 

 

 

 

“We are therefore calling on the police to carry out their investigation professionally, without fear or favour, in unearthing the masterminds of the attack, which from all available indices appears to have political undertones.”

 

 

 

 

 

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command disclosed that the attack occurred at about 11:50 p.m. on June 3, 2026, when two armed men riding a motorcycle allegedly opened fire on the victim in what appeared to be an attempted assassination.

 

 

 

 

 

According to the police spokesman, tactical and conventional teams were immediately deployed to the scene following a distress call.

 

 

 

 

 

 

“A team of police officers swiftly evacuated the victim to a medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment. Medical personnel have confirmed that Hon. Ajibola is in a stable condition and responding positively to treatment,” Ojelabi stated.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He added that security operatives have launched an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects, while exhibits recovered from the scene are undergoing forensic examination.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the attack and ordered a high-powered investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He directed all relevant investigative units to deploy every available resource toward identifying and arresting those responsible for the attack and ensuring their prosecution.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Command assured residents that no effort would be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice and urged members of the public to remain calm and provide useful information that could aid ongoing investigation.
