Osun 2026 Gov. Election: INEC Reiterates Commitment To Conduct Free, Transparent And Credible Election

…. assures adequate cooperation with the media in their duties.

The Osun Online Publishers Association(OOPA), paid a courtesy visit
to the INEC REC on Monday,11 May 2026.

At the occasion,the chairman of Osun Online Publishers Association(OOPA) Abioye Lawrence,welcomed the INEC REC to the State and urged her to use her good offices to carry along the media practitioners and deliver a credible election on August 15,2026.

In her response,
the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola assured that the Commission would give full cooperation to all media practitioners in the State.

Mrs Babalola also reinforced INEC Commitment to making the August 15 governorship election in the state to be credible, free, inclusive and transparent.

 

In her speech at the occasion , the Osun INEC Boss, Mrs Babalola Oluwatoyin, identified the media and the society as critical stakeholders in election matters.

According to her:

“If there is no media, the society cannot be informed. And when it comes to election matters, there is misinformation and disinformation and the media is needed to correct these anomalies”,she said.

Mrs Babalola therefore,gave the assurance to work with the media community to ensuring a credible, free, fair, inclusive and transparent governorship election in Osun.

 

In her words: “INEC needs the media for voter education and dissemination of accurate information on electoral activities.”

She maintained that the media is an advocate of peaceful coexistence and tolerance in the society. She noted that INEC will play it’s part in the dissemination of accurate information to the public.

While warning that tampering with election results attracts jail term with no option of fine, she urged media practitioners and their organisations to register for accreditation so as to be able to operate without restrictions on election day.

 

 

Mrs Babalola also disclosed that security agencies have assured of their full cooperation to protect lives and properties during the election period to make the exercise a huge success.
