In the late 1960s, a young Ebenezer Obey — born Ebenezer Fabiyi — was photographed riding a bicycle in Idogo, near Abeokuta, his hometown region in Ogun State.
Long before he became one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Juju musicians, Obey was already deeply connected to his roots. The image captures a simpler era — dusty roads, modest surroundings, and a rising cultural force moving quietly through his community on two wheels.
By the late 1960s, Obey was beginning to shape what would become a revolutionary sound in Juju music, blending traditional Yoruba percussion, philosophical lyrics, and modern instrumentation. He would later found the International Brothers Band, producing timeless classics that addressed morality, spirituality, love, and social responsibility.
The photograph is more than a nostalgic snapshot — it reflects the humility and grounded beginnings of a man who would grow into a cultural icon and spiritual voice within Nigerian music.
