…mixed reactions erupt from Nigerians
Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, revealed on Sunday that the Federal Government has approved the construction of an airstrip at Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland, in Ota, Ogun State.
The airstrip will allow Oyedepo and other church members to fly directly from the church premises, bypassing the need for a commercial airport.
“I am sure you will be glad to know that the Federal Government has approved an airstrip for Canaanland,” Oyedepo announced. “I won’t need to fly a helicopter to the airport anymore. I can leave from here to wherever I’m going. Members with their planes will have somewhere to land and park.”
The news has sparked a range of reactions on social media, with some questioning the government’s decision and others expressing support.
Twitter user @Atandalukman_ questioned the approval, asking, “Why would FG even allow him to have an airstrip in his church? Who is he???”
Others, like @ChrisEjiofor7, were more reflective, commenting, “Omo, this is heaven on Earth because there is no comfort great men of God have not enjoyed on earth now.”
Some critics raised concerns about the role of religious leaders in society, with @Stanzigar arguing, “These pastors have turned the value system of Christianity on its head… Jesus is the only God who died as a slave.”
However, there were also voices of support. @_klassy tweeted, “If this is legal… Does it meet FAA regulations? Environmental and safety regulations? If it does and would help develop the community, then it’s okay.”
Amidst the serious reactions, a more playful take came from @TheUntamable1, who joked, “What does it take to have a private airstrip? It’s in my pipeline of dreams too! Congratulations, Papa.”
