…says,”They Appoint Traditional Rulers and Mediate Local Disputes
Bandits have taken over large parts of Isa Local Government Area in Sokoto State, maintaining control by appointing traditional rulers and settling disputes among the communities, according to Sharifu Kamarawa, the LGA chairman.
He made this distressing revelation to the Minister of State for Defence during a Thursday visit to the area to assess the performance of the military forces.
“These bandits now act as local authorities. They freely move, resolve community disputes, and even collect taxes from residents,” Kamarawa lamented, adding that key bandit leaders like Bello Turji, Dan Bokolo, and Garso operate unchallenged in the area, including his own village, Kamarawa.
He pleaded for urgent military intervention, warning that farmlands remain inaccessible to farmers owing to the banditry, potentially leading to a severe food crisis.
Key affected areas include Gebe, Kamarawa Arume, and Bafarawa, among others along the border with Niger Republic.
The chairman therefore, called for immediate action to liberate the communities, which he described as “shackled” under the bandits’ rule.
