33 Years Creation  Of Osun State: Colloquium By Osun NUJ Council

The Commemoration of the 33 Years creation of Osun State was marked in the State today with a colloquium organised by the NUJ Osun Council at the NUJ Press Centre,Osogbo.

In a question put across by the moderator at the event,Femi Adefila,the Founder and CEO of Rave F.M,to one of the panelists,Mr Omigbodun Goke, on how he could rate the State of the Living Spring since establishment,Mr Omigbodun says” Today is not for criticisms “ . “All the past governments and administrators have made one impact or the other in the State which have been felt and still noticed in the State today.”

However, he said,” the current Government should listen and hear what the people are saying in the areas of security, electricity,agriculture,education and the like”.

“In the past,Osun could boast of various industries such as Osogbo Steel Rolling Mills, Machine Tools, Aina Wire Industries and others but today the story is different” “So,the current administration should find a way to industrialise the State in order to make jobs available for the people”,he said.

In his own contribution, Mr. Waheed Lawal,the Civil Society Coalition Executive,says”The State is not doing badly in terms of development but efforts should be made to create job opportunities by giving the enabling environment for the jobless youths and also attract entrepreneurs to Osun”.
“Youths should be equipped with Information Technology”,he said.

In response to a question fielded to him on whether the distribution of social amenities are evenly distributed to various parts of the State, the Hon. Commissioner of Information,Kolapo Alimi responded that this administration of Gov. Adeleke has been distributing social amenities to all the 30 LGS of the State without discrimination.


“Gov.Adeleke is trying to make the Health Centres in Osun State the World Standard with adequate water and electricity supply”. With the synergy from the CSDA,school feedings and facilities to power boreholes are being provided,he said.

Alimi agreed with other speakers that ,all the past governments in Osun State have done well(in his opinion). He however, maintained that”We are on the way”. “May we get there in peace” ,he said.

According to Alimi,the Osun government is working assiduously to get the youths out of idleness and will soon manifest but the youths must be ready to respond positively to government good intentions for them”.

On the IGR of the State,Hon. Alimi says,the resources on hand are not enough to dig deep the gold mining available in the State.”We are working on improving the IGR”. “The foreigners on gold mining site do not have adequate machinery to excavate the real gold underneath,they can only scratch the surface”. “We are working with ‘Segilola, with this ,our IGR will definitely improve,he concluded.
