Governor Adeleke:A Development Communicator And Osun Community Social  Development Agency (OSUN-CSDA)

The Osun Community and Social Development Agency(OSUN-CSDA)under the auspices of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s government organized a two-day Seminar/Workshop with the theme: “Media Engagement on Programme For Result(PforR) Initiatives”.

This centres on the importance of OSUN-CARES Agency in the State and in Nigeria as a whole.

The Seminar which kicked off on Wednesday and continued till Thursday at the Ben-Ber Foundation Hall in Osogbo was massively attended by media personalities in the State.

The epoch making event was loaded with various presentations from erudite resource personalities who took the front stage to expand to participants what the CSDA Stands for.

Welcoming the participants to the Workshop, Mrs Aduke Obelawo ,(a.ka.) (mama Oloyepupo) took time to brief the participants all that they were going to unearthed about the project of the agency-OSCDC

‘’You are all welcome to this workshop designed to intimate you with the in-depth of OSUN-CSDA project’’ ‘’You are going to know what we have been doing, what has been done so far; the success story and learn from it’’, she said.

Mrs Obelawo also said, ‘’You will also learn what the Administration of Governor Adeleke and the OSCDC has done in our communities’’ For example, she continues,’’over 200 micro projects have been executed within the State.’’

We have successfully executed more than 200 micro projects in Osun with a minimal financial community input contributions in order for them to have a sense of belonging in the projects’’.

At the Ability Arena Powerlines Area, Osogbo, those special people are trained to be useful in life to themselves and the nation. ‘’ The Adire cloth I’m wearing was made by one of the blinds in the home’’, she said.

“Initially , this project came on board with the Federal government as a result of COVID-19 Pandemic tagged NG –Cares meant as recovery and economic stimulus at that period. However, the Federal government of recent has made it mandatory for all States to key-in , into the project and Osun State has been one of the States that has been applauded for doing it right in this direction’’ , she said.

CSDC FOCUS:

CSDC is unique in the implementation of their community projects. Instead of the Top-Bottom approach , theirs is Bottom-Top Community development project execution , where the community concerned approaches the agency based on their needs. After going through various researches and feasibility studies , the community concerned is co-opted with a minimal financial input in order to have a sense of belonging in the project.

• Health and Sanitation
• Water Supply and
• VIP Toilet

The General Manager of the OSUN-CSDA, Mrs Funmi Abokede, while presenting her paper at the workshop , made the media personalities present to understand that they have a vital role to play to showcase the OSUN –CARES Projects to the world by way of their traditional roles of informing and educating the masses both at the rural and the urban centres.

Reference was made to the social poverty of the Bakassi People in Ile-Ife -South where previously , they found it difficult to get healthy water to drink!!! However, with the intervention of OSUN-CARES, it has become a thing of the past.

“At Bakassi, in Ile-Ife South of Osun State, previously,there was no government presence there;their roads were not motorable, no health centre . The community trek 6 kilometres to access health care;but today with the OSCDC and government intervention all those problems have been laid to rest.

ABILTY ARENA:

According to Mrs Abokede, the home for the physically challenged, is one of the vital projects on hand. The home , which has been renamed ABILITY ARENA houses many physically challenged persons. Mrs Abokede in her words, says,’’the home is loaded with talents’’.

At the home, ‘’the physically challenged people have learnt various vocations and they showcase their talents with their handicrafts. There is the tie and dye section, the Arts shop and showroom, bags, shoes and many other valuables these special people have produced by themselves for sale.’’

Resource Persons who presented various papers on different issues of the OSUN-CARES Project include: GM-OSUN-CARES Project, Mrs Abokede Funmi,Mr. Akinsola Ogunsakin, Finance &Accounts Manager, Bashir Adeyemo,Monitoring &Evaluation Manager , Mr Joel Adeniyi Adedokun, Admin & Supplies Manager,Mr Felix Akinwande among others.

The Workshop was rounded off later in the day with the announcement to continue with Day 2 which took participants to various locations in the State to inspect Projects already executed and completed by OSUN-CARES.

The GM, OSUN-CARES,Mrs Abokede drew the attention of participants to a particular section among the lot which is people with Spinal cord problem. How their case is so pathetic that they found it difficult to do anything by themselves unless assisted. She called on well-meaning,and philanthropists in the society to come to their rescue in form of donations to support the agency for the welfare of these physically challenged people at the centre.
