On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the University of Ibadan management released an internal memorandum outlining a new schedule for electricity provision on campus.
According to the memo, electricity will be supplied to hostels and other campus areas from 8 AM to 2 PM during the day, and from 10 PM to 2 AM at night. This schedule means the university community will experience power outages for 14 out of 24 hours each day.
In a special release on the university’s website, the administration explained the reasons behind this change: “It is no longer news that there is, at present, a severe energy crisis on a national scale. This has negatively affected supply from the national grid to the institution. The daily power availability of 18-22 hours from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has dropped to about 10-12 hours.”
