A 12-year-old boy dragged to court for stabbing two siblings.
On Tuesday, a 12-year-old boy was dragged before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for reportedly stabbing two brothers.
The defendant, whose residential address is yet to be ascertained is on trial for three counts charge of assault, intentional damage, and breach of peace.
Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 10 at 8:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti,Omi Olori area.
According to him, the defendant assaulted two brothers, Toheeb Adeitan and Tajudeen Adeitan, by beating and stabbing them in the wrists and shoulders.
He further claimed that the defendant willfully and maliciously destroyed a Vivo mobile phone worth N19,000 belonging to the two boys’ father, Basiri Adeitan.
The prosecution stated that the defendant’s actions were likely to result in a breach of the peace.
He stated that the offences violated Sections 181(d), 186, and 421, Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
However, the defendant pled not guilty to the accusation brought against him by the police.
The prosecution requested an adjournment so that he could read the case file and introduce his witnesses.
Gboyega Abiola, the defendant’s counsel, requested the court to grant release and stated that the prisoner would not jump bail.
In a bench judgment, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun stated that the defendant was a minor and would be tried in juvenile court.
He consequently ruled that the defendant be detained in the juvenile home.
The case was adjourned to August 16 for mention by Adeosun.
In another development an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun State has remanded two siblings and another individual for allegedly stealing 22 bags of dry cocoa beans and other items valued at N30 million.
The defendants, Hassan Wasiu (34), Kamoru Wasiu (30), and Liadi Muhammed (40), are charged with conspiracy, shop breaking, and theft.
Despite not having legal representation, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Abosede Sarumi denied bail for the defendants owing to the absence of a formal application. They were remanded in a correctional facility, with the case adjourned to September 9 for mention.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Joseph Adebayo, the defendants committed the crime at around 3:00 a.m. on June 18 at Ondo Road, Ile-Ife.
Adebayo stated that the defendants conspired to unlawfully break into a shop owned by the complainant, Adegbaju Olaolu, and stole 22 bags of dry cocoa beans, an electric battery, a solar system, and clothes, all valued at N30 million.
The prosecutor added that the offences contravened sections 390(9), 413, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
